Three-time Most Valuable Player Jokic endures a 'devastating' knee injury.

The Denver Nuggets star earned the NBA's Most Valuable Player title in three of the past four years.

Thrice-crowned National Basketball Association MVP Jokic suffered a "devastating" injury to his knee while the Nuggets were defeated 147-123 at the Miami Heat.

The Serbian center injured himself late in the first half following an accidental coming together with team-mate Jones.

The other player landed on the footwear of the MVP, and he promptly went down to the floor holding his leg.

The 30-year-old, who is leading the NBA this season in rebounds and dimes, had a score of 21 points and eight dimes in the game prior to incurring the setback.

He will undergo an scan on Tuesday to assess the extent of the problem.

"Immediately, he realized he was hurt," stated Nuggets head coach David Adelman.

"This is part of the NBA. Whoever that is injured, it's difficult, especially a player as important as Jokic. More information will come tomorrow."

"We will continue as a team. Of course, currently, I'm more worried primarily about Jokic as a person and the frustration of experiencing an event of that nature."
