The Reform UK leader Claims Educators of ‘Poisoning Our Kids’ on Race Issues
Nigel Farage has asserted that teachers would go on strike shortly after a Reform UK election victory, accusing them of “poisoning our kids” by telling students that African-Caribbean youth are oppressed and white children oppressors.
At a gathering for a private US Christian college, the politician expressed his perspective on British schools, stating that the “radical left-wing” had “now in control of our education system”.
“I expect a walkout by educators soon after winning the next general election,” he remarked in response to questions.
“They are poisoning our kids. They are telling them to be ashamed of their country. They inform little Johnny, who’s eight, who is black that he is oppressed and a white child of the same age that he is a perpetrator. They are dividing us, instead of fostering unity. They promote this harmful mindset.”
In response to Farage’s claims, the head of a major education union dismissed the notion that the education system was controlled by Marxists as “absurd”. Kebede noted that industrial action must relate to educators’ working conditions, and doubted whether the party would target these right after taking office.
“Farage has built his political career on coded rhetoric and currently, like Trump, he is targeting educators and their organizations for a fight,” Kebede stated.
“This is highly reckless. Neither I nor our union – push critical race theory as he claims … If he were to lead the government he would sell out our public services, particularly schooling … and the outcome would be catastrophic for education and children.”
Reform, which tops surveys by about 10 points, has not set out much detail on its educational plans and seems not to have designated an education lead.
Nonetheless, his comments suggested the group would reform the system and the curriculum. He said: “We have got a massive job with schooling – absolutely herculean. Moreover, it won’t happen quickly; it will take us years, a long-term effort to reform.”
Farage expressed that younger generations are receptive to analytical thought, but millennials were “absolutely hopeless”.
Honoring a conservative activist, Farage said: “All I want education to do to foster independent thought – to educate individuals that multiple perspectives exist and they should decide for themselves rather than what’s happening now where one is virtuous and one is evil. This is a huge undertaking in the UK and US.”
Reform has previously clashed with the UK’s largest teaching union, after Kebede called the party “far right and racist” and described the leader as “a cheap imitation”.
The politician has charged the union head with being “a self-declared Marxist” … an individual intent that our children should be poisoned at school, their thinking tainted about everything to do with this country” and has argued that the organization seeks to brainwash teenagers against Reform.
Roughly a million individuals work in schools in the UK, about half of whom are teachers and the others teaching assistants and support staff. The major education union has about 450,000 members.
Countrywide walkouts over teacher pay and conditions in recent years led to significant interruptions in schools and extensive missed instruction for children.
At the US event, the Reform leader also vowed to promote the digital courses of the Christian college in the UK. He said such groups were “part of the fightback”, noting: “I mean this. I will help garner hundreds of thousands, if not millions of youth to these educational programs. I pledge this now and I will follow through.”
The institution, a religious educational establishment, provides complimentary classes. Its website states: “A scientific, literary, theological, political, and moral education is vital for well-being and to maintain the benefits of civil and religious liberty. The college furnishes these excellent programs for no charge to all who wish to learn.”
