Tetris Couldn't Succeed at The Game Awards — Another Award Type Might Solve This

Whenever a major prize-giving event nears, one notices a clamor for introducing additional classifications to honor overlooked contributions and delight the spirits of followers with niche passions.

My colleague previously argued advocating for terror-themed awards. It would be amazing. Equally deserving are strategy board titles, this being a passionate advocate's mission. However, I must insist when I prioritize just as with other single-minded supporters, there's a strong justification for why my demand is the most urgent and important of all. The demand is this: We need a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Categorizing Game Types

Classifying creative works defies precise measurement; it remains highly personal, and inevitably spark debates resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that movie academies don’t do it. But it is an unavoidable compromise in the world of gaming, which are so diverse they barely qualify a single creative category.

For the full spectrum of achievement in video games to gain proper attention, while allowing diverse titles to receive proper recognition, specific award classifications remain vital.

Existing Game Classification System

Prominent interactive entertainment events presently include genre categories for Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these award types successfully include many game types, making space possible for numerous titles.

This doesn't apply to logic-based experiences. No suitable classification appears for their placement. Think about these outstanding current releases, all very different: structural challenges of one title, the pulse-pounding block-matching in a different title, thought-provoking social scenarios from additional release. Which classification works within current classifications? Nowhere, that’s where.

Acknowledgment Issues

Many instances occur of brilliant puzzle games released every year lacking appropriate categories during gaming ceremonies, unless they happen to qualify award groups including Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, or the intensely contested Indie races.

  • An iconic brain-teaser got overlooked in any category that year
  • Another imaginative release was excluded that year
  • A beloved organization game received no acknowledgment recently
  • Limited numbers of logic titles managed to sneak into niche award types

Significance of Puzzle Games

These are often small games, but the art in brain-teasers is of massive significance. Iconic mobile puzzle games stand as the most-played games globally maintaining this status for many years.

The legendary block-stacking game rivals famous sandbox experiences claiming status as most purchased experience; it additionally competes for top gaming experience. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks to the art of video games, and engaging across multiple categories.

Proposal and Rationale

Logic titles wouldn't face that issue. It would be easy to populate a field of five interesting, varied, worthy titles every year with ease — actually, with challenge, given the need to exclude so many good games out.

To emphasize again, these include experiences without proper classification in important events. Puzzle game makers function at the demanding boundary game development, producing among essential manifestations within interactive entertainment. Similar to movie stunt professionals, they merit acknowledgment. We shouldn't delay decades.
