Reigning Sabalenka Wins Back-to-Back WTA Player of the Year Honors.
The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been voted the Women's Tennis Association top performer of the year for a second consecutive season.
The 27-year-old won four tournament victories – the highest tally on the circuit – which included successfully defending the US Open in September against Amanda Anisimova to secure her fourth Grand Slam singles championship.
A Year of High Performance
Throughout the year, Sabalenka competed in a tour-best nine championship matches, with defeats coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final at the start of the year and Coco Gauff in June's French Open final.
The Belarusian also claimed victory at the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open as the clay season progressed. She spent the whole season as the top-ranked player, finishing 2025 on top of the rankings for a second successive year.
In July, she achieved the status of being the first athlete to top 12,000 WTA ranking points after Serena Williams in 2015.
Historic Numbers
Sabalenka ended the season with a 63-12 win-loss record, and collected a record £11m in prize money.
She garnered almost 80% of the votes cast by international tennis media.
On 28 December, she is scheduled to face 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in a high-profile mixed-gender exhibition match with the aim of "help bring women's tennis to a higher level".
Other WTA Award Winners
- Comeback Player of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, twenty-eight, was voted after taking 13-month break after the arrival of her first child and making her comeback to the sport at the start of this year.
- Fresh Face of the Year: Canadian 19-year-old Victoria Mboko picked up the award after beginning the season positioned beyond the world's top 300 and rising to world number 18.
- Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were voted after winning their second career Grand Slam title together.
- Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova was named after reaching five finals.
Recently, Carlos Alcaraz won three honours in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, including the year-end number one award, while Jannik Sinner was chosen as the fan favorite for a third consecutive time.
