Morning greetings. The British establishment has rolled out the red carpet for the US president today. Today constitutes the initial complete day of a rare diplomatic trip, and he will spend time alongside the monarch at the historic fortress taking in the finest pageantry Britain has to offer.
But civic Britain are expressing opinions on Trump today, and – perhaps mindful regarding his interest on turnout numbers along with his claimed support for free speech, rallies are planned throughout the UK, the largest gathering in London.
Planned Activities
- Late morning: Donald Trump is due at the royal grounds by helicopter.
- Just after noon: A carriage procession within the castle is scheduled.
- 12.20pm: A ceremonial welcome will be held.
- Midday: Demonstration leaders hold a public event at Portland Place then leading a walk to Parliament Square.
- After sunset: A television outlet broadcasts an interview alongside the leader.
- In the night: He is present at an official dinner within the castle walls.
Allegiance toward the super-potentate overseas is an all-in gamble. There is an opportunity cost concerning building partnerships closer to home, alongside states that uphold global agreements and norms.
These are not people that willingly step down at the ballot box, or even run the risk through impartial polls. They are not people whose principles and decisions the UK ought to rely long-term success or national security.
Reports will center primarily on diplomatic events today, but I will be covering non-Trump UK politics also.
