Patrick Bamford Joins Sheffield United Despite Initiating Derogatory Chants About Coach Wilder
The striker is now a member of the Championship side only seven months after starting derogatory songs aimed at their manager, Wilder.
This experienced striker, a free agent since leaving Leeds United, has signed a agreement with the second-tier club in difficulty through the winter. Bamford's lengthy career at Elland Road concluded by mutual consent this past summer.
One of the player's final notable acts as a Leeds player involved leading insulting chants about Wilder amid the club’s promotion celebrations in April. Currently, the former England international is set to play under Wilder as Sheffield United's boss seeks to rescue his beloved club away from the bottom places.
Previous History Between the Striker and the Manager
Both men had a past before Leeds earned promotion back to the top flight last season and United lost the promotion decider to Sunderland. The manager called Bamford as “a muppet” back when the roles were reversed during the 2018-19 season and Sheffield United won automatic promotion whereas Leeds missed out in the promotion playoffs.
Reconciliation and Looking Ahead
Everything appears has been resolved with United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, in desperate need of improvement up front while Bamford hoping to revive his playing days.
The song about Wilder spread widely this spring. An apologetic Bamford along with Leeds boss, Daniel Farke, called Wilder the following day.
Chris Wilder commented back then: “Had a conversation with Pat yesterday and I have no issue whatsoever with that. I'm uncertain about the words used from a fellow pro! But I valued and respected him calling me.
“We had 20 minutes and the same again I spoke to Daniel too and had a half-hour chat together and he's a super guy, a top guy. When I was playing we used to dish it out and take it and that’s part and parcel of the game at every level, even on Sunday league. I have absolutely no issue. I am cool with the situation and I told him that to Patrick.”
Recent Playing Struggles
Bamford made 18 appearances with Leeds United in the previous campaign but the former Forest, Chelsea & Boro striker has struggled with fitness issues in recent years.
