An extensive two-month cruise circling the Land Down Under has been cancelled days after the tragic passing of an older lady who was abandoned by the ship on a remote island.

The elderly woman had been trekking on the tropical location with fellow passengers from the Coral Adventurer, but broke off from the excursion for a rest. The ship sailed away leaving her and returned several hours later after the personnel became aware the woman was not present.

A major rescue mission found her person the subsequent day.

Investigative bodies are investigating the event, in coordination with police and the state coroner.

The CEO of the cruise operator said that passengers and personnel on the Coral Adventurer were informed that the rest of the voyage had been called off due to the "sad loss and prior mechanical issues".

Through an announcement, he added that passengers would be issued a complete reimbursement, and said the organization was working "to coordinate the return journeys of the travelers via private aircraft".

Regulatory bodies also published an latest communication, and said they had "issued a notice to the Commander" preventing any further travelers from boarding the vessel.

The official said that they would inspect the ship in Cairns upon its return.

The ship first departed Cairns on the 24th of October, and was merely two days into the voyage at the moment of the elderly woman's death. Lizard Island was the opening port on the itinerary.

She further stated that she wished the examination would be able to identify what "the company should have undertaken that might have protected Her life".

"We understand from the authorities that it was a exceptionally warm afternoon, and mother became unwell on the uphill trek," she revealed.

"She was asked her to head down, alone. Then the ship left, reportedly without doing a passenger count.

"At a certain moment in that sequence, or shortly after, mum succumbed, by herself."

Operator Position

In a statement, the CEO confirmed that the operator was "collaborating extensively with authorities to support their inquiry".

He mentioned that the company was "extremely apologetic that this has transpired" and had provided its total backing to the family.

Maritime Business Procedures

The ship caters for up to a hundred twenty guests with 46 personnel, according to company information. It was purpose-built to reach isolated areas of the nation's coast and is equipped with "auxiliary vessels" - compact vessels used to take passengers on shore trips.

Incidents like this are rare, and cruise ships have protocols to track which individuals are embarking or leaving, according to maritime specialists.

"Going ashore secretly or [back] onboard really isn't an possibility," an authority remarked.

Cruise lines take these processes extremely carefully and have "sophisticated systems in place to avoid such occurrences from taking place," the specialist continued.
